Key Maintenance Milestones for Your Mercedes
If you’ve ever taken a Mercedes in for servicing or looked at the maintenance schedule, you have likely seen that there are two types of service: A and B. You may be left wondering what that means. These are the two alternating types of services used for most gasoline Mercedes vehicles. Diesel, AMG, V12 cars, Trucks, and Vans have slightly different needs, as indicated in their owner’s manuals.
A-Service
Your Mercedes needs servicing every 10,000 miles or every year, whichever comes first. The A-Service is required on the odd intervals. So, it would be at 10,000, 30,000 and 50,000 miles, and so on. If you have a somewhat recent model, it will indicate when it is time for an A-Service in the infotainment system. Older models may have different servicing needs.
During the A-Service, you can expect the following services to be performed:
- Oil Change
- Oil Filter Replacement
- Fluid-Level Check and Correction
- Tire Inflation Check and Correction
- Brake Inspection
- Brake Replacement (If Needed)
- Reset Maintenance Counter
B Service
On the other intervals, you will receive a B-Service. This would be at 20,000, 40,000 and 60,000 miles and so on or at two, four, and six years and so on. These are the services that you can expect during your B-Service:
- Oil Change
- Oil Filter Replacement
- Cabin Filter Replacement
- Brake Fluid Exchange
- Fluid-Level Check and Correction
- Tire Inflation Check and Correction
- Brake Inspection
- Brake Replacement (If Needed)
- Reset Maintenance Counter
Other Servicing Information
As mentioned, not all vehicles follow this same setup. Mercedes vehicles made before 2009 have different service schedules. Additionally, you may have other services performed on your vehicle as needed. Consult your owner’s manual for more information on vehicle maintenance.
Diesel vehicles also need AdBlue replacement, a fuel filter replacement, and some other model-specific maintenance. For AMG and V12 models, check the corresponding service sheet.
